Two guys from Novosibirsk created a fashion brand of simple and high quality clothes — Harm's. This project is made by Yura and Artem for different people of various ages. I asked them about their experience. They answered the same questions separately and they still haven't known about who said what. Read the interview and find out about Russian young designers.
RF: How did you meet each other?
| Artem: It was many years ago, when I took part at parties every time, everywhere. |
Yura: We met each other when I organized a party at home and some years later we started cooperating like a graphic designers at first. |
RF: When did you think up to create your own project?
| Artem: The idea was appeared in September 2010, in October or November we thought up the name to our brand and then we started working hard. But before we wanted to create T-shirts with special prints or stickers and then when a winter had come we understood that sweatshirts would be batter. |
Yura: Recently I’ve been remembering it. Some time later after our meeting, we thought about clothes design, but it was like a teenagers’ dream. Further conversation is not set. 4 years have passed and we’ve started real work. It was a winter. We decided to make our first sweatshirts collection. |
RF: What do you responsible for?
| Artem: I responsible for how clothes will be look and sit. But honestly we don’t divide our charges, because everything crosses. |
Yura: We are partners and try to help each other in different questions. Of course, there are priority directions of activity. For example, Artem doesn’t touch a financial part of business, but we discus promotion of our brand together. And at the same time I try to distance from creation process, but what clothes will be out of collection we decide together. |
RF: Tell me please about what you are inspired by, how you make clothes for Harm’s and where people can buy them.

Artem: I’m inspired by the other clothes and how people look at the streets. Of course there aren’t a lot of well-dressed people you can meet in our city, but sometimes a cloth, which was chosen loosely, is able to urge me on creation.
It happens that I’m at metro and notice a unique part in style of unknown person. In addition I’m inspired by favorites designers’ works.
After we create a sketch then constructor makes a test model and we take a decision about add it in a collection or not. Every Harm’s clothes you can buy on web-site.

Yura: I’m inspired by activities of different people: designers, musicians, actors and cinema directors and etc.
So I try realizing my ideas in our brand conception. Look at our summer look book. It’s not a standard fashion shooting, it’s almost a plot of movie. Everything looks like film creation: we have a script, story, types for each actor.
And what’s about a producing. It doesn’t differ from others, but all of our model clothing has a test drive. We order a sample and then we wear it, wash and alter before understanding that this clothe will be able to be produce.

RF: Tell about Moscow market which was during Afisha’s Picnic.

Artem: It wasn’t a presentation, because we didn’t throw our sweatshirts with Courtney Love from a stage :) We had been installing our collection during a market day. Everything was good and we got cool feedbacks.

Yura:It was great! I thank Ksusha Kushnarenko, manager of market, for her invaluable help for us. Many people were surprised that two guys make such clothes in Siberia. Also we’ve received new experience and become more confident. Now we know we are fond of a right business. |
RF: When will you plan to show a new collection?
| Artem: We plan releasing a new collection at the end of 2011. Before this time we launch some clothes how musicians make: at first they launch singles and then present long play. The collection will devote to brutal guys and ladies. Materials and style will coarser. It will be needed by a Siberian winter. |
Yura:We don’t decide 100%. I can only say that it was another format. :) |
